Community Connections and Student Experiences
June has been a month of genuine richness for our students and our community here at Central West Leadership Academy.
As Term 2 draws to a close, I am pleased to reflect on the range of experiences that have shaped this month, and to share some of what has made it a memorable one.
A Journey to the Nation's Capital
Earlier this month, our Stage 3 students travelled to Canberra, where they visited Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and a number of other significant national landmarks. Experiences such as these are difficult to replicate in a classroom. They place students in direct contact with the history, governance and identity of our country, and the conversations that follow a trip like this are often among the most meaningful of the year.
Welcoming Those Who Serve
We were pleased to welcome our local first responders to school hall this month. Students had the opportunity to meet the men and women who serve and protect our community every day. At CWLA, we believe that understanding the people and institutions around us is an important part of a student's development. Events such as this help to build respect, curiosity and a genuine sense of connection to the broader Dubbo community.
Pathways That Begin Here
Our Years 10 to 12 students connected with the University of Sydney's Rural Health Club this month, hearing first-hand from university students and health professionals about careers in rural health, and the pathways available to them from right here in Dubbo.
Moments like these carry real weight. They remind our students that meaningful, purposeful careers do not require leaving home, and that the foundations for a strong future can be built right where they are. I am grateful to the University of Sydney's Rural Health Club for taking the time to engage with our school.
NAIDOC Week
Our school community came together this month to mark NAIDOC Week with a ceremony honouring the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was a moment of genuine reflection and celebration, and I am proud that CWLA takes time each year to mark this important week with the seriousness and respect it deserves.
Our thanks to all students, staff and families who participated in making this a meaningful occasion for our whole community.
Student Initiative on Display
One of the highlights of June was our student-led Clothing Swap Fete, held as part of The Academy's Passion Project program. Students planned, prepared and hosted this event themselves, welcoming the community through our gates and putting into practice many of the qualities we work hard to develop: initiative, creativity, collaboration and care for the world around them.
Events such as this are a genuine expression of what student-led learning can look like. I congratulate all students involved in bringing this project to life.
Kindergarten 2027 Enrolment Interviews
Enrolment interviews for Kindergarten 2027 are now underway, continuing through to Term 3, Week 2. If your family is considering CWLA for your child's school journey beginning in 2027, I warmly encourage you to connect with us. Enrol here.
Closing the Term Together
Families joined us for our End of Term Assembly as Term 2 came to a close. These gatherings matter. They are an opportunity for our whole community to pause, recognise student effort and celebrate what has been achieved across the term. Thank you to all families who were able to attend.
Into the Holidays
June has been a full and rewarding month. From the Canberra excursion to NAIDOC Week, from First Responders Day to student-led projects, our students have approached each experience with the curiosity and commitment that we work hard to nurture.
I hope our students enjoy a well-earned break with their families over the holidays. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 3.
Thank you, as always, for the trust and support you extend to CWLA. The partnership between our families and our staff remains central to everything we do.
