Demonstrated leadership in an area of specialisation

Central West Leadership Academy is a 21 Century Skills school for students with a genuine desire to learn and make an impact on the world.  Whilst most selective programs focus on academic testing for establishing giftedness, this is not the only yardstick for high potential learners.  We also look for students with a demonstrated passion, potential or ability in the areas of the Arts, Community Leadership, Sports and Technology.

The Academy offers entry via the following areas with examples of documents to support your application taking into consideration that the appropriateness of documentation may vary depending on the student’s age.

  • NAPLAN and/or ICAS results, paperwork from current school documenting high academic success or work sample displaying potential or passion in one or more areas, such as mathematics, literature, science or humanities.

  • High potential, commitment,  achievement or consistent participation in artistic pursuits, including selection or participation in regional or statewide competitions or performances (e.g. Regional Youth Orchestra), participation in or success in regional art prizes and awards or recommendations from Dance, Art or Music institutions detailing their passion and potential for their age or capacities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service, volunteerism or leadership (e.g. volunteer at ParkRun, local charity work, fundraising, involvement in council, government matters / events, sustainability initiatives)

  • High potential, commitment or achievement, such as ongoing consistent high-level participation in local clubs and teams, or representation in state representation or higher in given sport.

  • Demonstrated passion or skill in website building, coding, game construction or digital communication (e.g. blogging), film making, music recording and mixing

The Enrolment Process

Support documentation prepared.  You will need:

  • A copy of the student’s birth certificate

  • Visa documentation (if appropriate)

  • Most recent school reports

  • Evidence of demonstrated leadership in an area of specialisation

  • Documentation relating to any medical requirements, learning difficulties, accelerated learning or special needs

Complete the Enrolment Application (see below) supplying all requested documentation and supporting evidence.

Applications are reviewed against the entry criteria and eligible applicants are contacted for an interview.

After receipt of this form and supporting documents, you may be contacted to organise an interview. This interview will take approximately 45 minutes and will involve a conversation between the Principal, parents / caregivers and the student. The student may be asked to complete some age appropriate academic activities during the interview time.

Following your interview, if your application for enrolment is successful you will receive a formal Letter of Offer from the principal.

If your application for enrolment is successful, you will receive a formal letter of offer from the Principal. If you wish to accept The Academy’s offer, you will need to respond to the letter of offer within 14 days. 

For enrolments where the student joins the school at the beginning of the school year, acceptance of the offer must be accompanied by a non-refundable $500 enrolment fee which becomes deductible from first term’s fees. 25% of the annual tuition fee is payable prior to commencement. For mid-year enrolments and start dates, the acceptance of the offer must be accompanied by an enrolment fee of the first term’s tuition (25% of the annual tuition fee).
