Kicking off Term 2 – Celebrations, Connections and Community at The Academy

As we settle into Term 2, there’s a strong sense of momentum and connection across The Academy. With community events, student learning, and family engagement all in full swing, it’s been a vibrant start to the term. I’m delighted to share some of the highlights from the past few weeks.

IB Parent Information Session

Thank you to the families who attended our recent IB Parent Information Meeting. It was a valuable opportunity to walk through the structure of the IB programme, including subject expectations, assessment timelines, ATAR conversions, and the importance of the core elements - CAS, TOK, and the Extended Essay.

We also shared how we support students both academically and emotionally, and highlighted the role of parents in guiding routines and checking in through ManageBac.

💻 If you missed the session, the presentation is available here.

Trivia Night – Friday, 16 May

We’re looking forward to bringing families together for a night of fun, laughter and friendly competition at Trivia Night in our brand-new school hall.

Staff Profile – Pete Whiting

This month of staff profiles, we’re proud to introduce Pete Whiting, who plays a dual role as Director of Teaching and Learning and Coordinator of Wellbeing. Pete is in his fifth year at The Academy and brings nearly two decades of experience to his work with students and staff.

Pete is passionate about the link between wellbeing and learning, and his thoughtful, relational approach is felt across classrooms and leadership spaces alike. Outside of school, Pete enjoys time with his family, painting miniatures with his son, and visiting his favourite local spot, Relic Games.

We’re lucky to have Pete’s experience, heart, and humour shaping the everyday life of The Academy.

Thank you for your continued support, it’s what makes our community so special.
