Academy hosts regional Australia’s only primary Philosothon

The Central West Leadership Academy will host their second annual Big Ideas Challenge (Philosothon) next week.

After last year’s successful event, the Central West Leadership Academy will again host the only primary Philosothon in Australia held in a regional area.

The Philosothon is an event that aims to give school students an opportunity to investigate philosophical issues while focusing on critical and creative thinking. Student challenges will include: reasoning, identifying perspectives, seeking other options, forming criteria, asking questions and building up ideas. Students will examine art, think in collaborative groups and participate in role play.

In this event, 55 year 5 and 6 students from the following schools will participate in the two-day workshop:

  • St John’ Primary School (Dubbo)

  • St Mary’s Primary School (Dubbo)

  • Dubbo South Public School

  • St Augustine’s Parish Primary School (Narromine)

  • Macquarie College (Newcastle)

  • Central West Leadership Academy (Dubbo)

The Academy’s Principal Mandi Randell stated, “We are dedicated to continuing to offer high level national events locally to continue to enrich and challenge our young bright thinkers in the region.”
