Celebrating Learning, Leadership, and Community at The Academy

Celebrating Learning, Leadership, and Community at The Academy

This term at the Academy has been one of our busiest and most exciting yet! From our very first Athletics Carnival to Science Week, Book Week, R U OK? Day, and milestone moments for our Year 12 students, the past few weeks have been filled with learning, celebration, and community connection. Each event has shown the strength of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the vibrant spirit that defines The Academy.

Athletics Carnival – A Milestone Moment

On Tuesday, 19 August, we proudly hosted our first-ever Athletics Carnival at Barden Park. With 161 students competing in sprints, hurdles, discus, sack races, long jump, and the egg and spoon, the day was filled with energy and encouragement. Students came together in their house teams: Red, Yellow, and Green, showing wonderful school spirit. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special.

Science Week – Curiosity in Action

Science Week gave our Stage 4 students the chance to showcase their learning at our Junior Science Show and Science Fair. From poster displays to engaging presentations, it was inspiring to see students explain big ideas and share their curiosity with judges, teachers, and peers. Events like these remind us how hands-on learning sparks problem-solving, creativity, and a love of discovery.

R U OK? Day – Conversations That Count

This year’s R U OK? Day brought our community together to focus on connection and care. In the lead-up, students took part in daily homeroom activities and an art contest. On Thursday, we wore yellow, gathered as a school, and shared a powerful moment of reflection. Thank you to our students and staff for approaching the week with such warmth and spirit.

Celebrating Reading – Book Week 2025

Book Week was a celebration of imagination and the joy of stories. Students explored global authors, created book-themed adventure lands, swapped pre-loved books, and capped it off with a colourful dress-up parade and family picnic. A big thank you to everyone who supported the bake sale and to QBD Books for providing vouchers for our best-dressed winners.

NAPLAN Results 2025

We are proud of the effort and progress shown across all year levels in this year’s NAPLAN:

  • Year 3: Strong achievement in Numeracy and Writing, with Reading and Spelling developing well.

  • Year 5: Excellent results across Reading, Grammar, Punctuation, and Numeracy, with many students working at very high levels.

  • Year 7: Strong performances in Numeracy and Reading, with Writing beginning to show greater depth.

  • Year 9: Encouraging results in Reading and Numeracy, with Writing, Grammar, and Spelling remaining key focus areas as students prepare for senior school.

Congratulations to all students for their hard work and to our teachers and families for their support.

Year 12 Graduation Week

It’s a milestone month for our Year 12 students. On Monday, 22 September, parents and staff will gather for a special dinner to celebrate the Class of 2025. Then, on Friday, 26 September, we’ll hold their final school assembly, including the announcement of our Dux. We’re proud of all they’ve achieved and look forward to celebrating this important transition.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. Together, we are building a school community where every child can thrive.
