Welcome back, students!
Welcome to the 2025 School Year at The Academy!
The 2025 school year is officially underway, and our campus is already buzzing with energy, excitement, and a sense of possibility. From our youngest learners in Kindergarten to our senior students preparing for their future, it’s wonderful to see our classrooms alive with curiosity and enthusiasm.
Embracing Bravery and Boldness in 2025
This year, we are encouraging students to approach their learning with bravery and boldness—qualities that will help them tackle challenges, explore new opportunities, and grow both academically and personally. Whether it’s asking big questions, stepping out of comfort zones, or supporting one another, 2025 is all about taking those leaps and shining brightly.
We can’t wait to see what our students achieve this year!
A Message from Our Acting Principal, Renee Matheson
I’m Renee Matheson, and I’m delighted to step into the role of Acting Principal at The Academy for 2025. With over 25 years in education, including more than a decade in executive school leadership, I’ve seen firsthand how a nurturing and innovative learning environment can empower both students and educators.
My leadership philosophy is based on fostering curiosity, resilience, and a growth mindset. I truly believe that challenges are opportunities in disguise and that with the right support, every student can thrive. I’m especially passionate about engaging with both students and educators, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and new ways of learning.
I also recognise that a child’s first teachers are their parents and carers. Building strong relationships with families is incredibly important to me, and I look forward to working closely with our school community throughout the year.
Last week, we hosted our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening, and it was a pleasure to meet so many of you in person. Thank you for your warm welcome—I’m excited for the year ahead!
A Warm Welcome to Our 2025 Kindergarten Class
Our newest learners have arrived, ready to embark on their first school adventure! Under the guidance of Mrs Burns and Miss Jacinta, our Kindergarten students are settling into a nurturing environment where curiosity, creativity, and confidence thrive.
Starting school is a big milestone, and we are so proud of how quickly our Kindergarten students are embracing their learning. We look forward to seeing them grow throughout the year!

The Benefits of Bilingualism
In today’s globalised world, being bilingual or multilingual is an incredible advantage. Research shows that students who learn an additional language develop:
✔️ Stronger problem-solving skills
✔️ Improved cognitive flexibility
✔️ Greater cultural understanding
Language learning doesn’t just prepare students for travel or career opportunities—it helps them become true global citizens. Even small steps, like using language apps such as Duolingo, can turn screen time into an opportunity for skill-building.
At The Academy, we inspire students to embrace language learning as a vital part of becoming open-minded, knowledgeable individuals ready to thrive in a connected world.
Personalised Learning Plan Meetings (Years 1-10)
We are excited to continue our Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) meetings this term, ensuring that every student from Kindergarten to Year 10 receives the support they need to reach their full potential.
Parents are invited to join their child at school to review, reflect, and set goals in literacy, numeracy, and social & emotional learning alongside teachers. This collaboration ensures that each child is supported both at school and at home.
✔️ Kindergarten students will begin with a simple Personalised Learning Placemat to ease them into this process.
✔️ In Term 3, students will reflect on their progress and adjust their goals for the second half of the year.
This term, Miss Ferguson is running a multiplication lunch group, supporting students who have set times tables as a focus in their maths goals.
We believe that working closely with families is key to student success, and we look forward to strengthening this partnership throughout the year.
