Reflecting on Term 1 and Looking Ahead to Term 2

Reflecting on Term 1 and Looking Ahead to Term 2

As we conclude Term 1 and begin Term 2, it is an appropriate time to reflect on a busy and rewarding period at The Academy, while also looking ahead to the opportunities that lie in the term to come.

The recent school holidays provided students with an important opportunity to rest, recharge and reconnect with family. Maintaining a balance between learning and wellbeing remains an important part of each student’s journey, and it has been encouraging to see students return to school settled and ready to engage.

A Strong and Growing Community

It continues to be pleasing to see the growth within our school community, particularly in the primary years. Increasing numbers of families are choosing The Academy as the starting point for their child’s education, reflecting the strength of our teaching, our learning environment and the sense of connection across the school.

Developing strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking, alongside a sense of belonging, remains central to our approach in the early years.

Supporting Diverse Learning Pathways

At The Academy, we recognise that each student brings different strengths, interests and aspirations. Our approach to learning is centred on supporting students to grow with confidence while developing their individual capabilities.

Whether students are pursuing academic, creative or practical pathways, each journey is valued and supported. A strong learning community is built through inclusion, respect and the provision of meaningful opportunities for all students.

Pathways Into the Senior Years

As students move through the school, the importance of clear and supportive pathways becomes increasingly evident. From Year 9 onwards, students are encouraged to explore opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and help shape their future direction.

This includes access to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Years 11 and 12. This globally recognised pathway supports students to develop independence, critical thinking and a broader perspective, while remaining connected to their local community.

We encourage families to continue engaging with these pathways and to consider how they support each student’s individual goals.

Wellbeing and Student Support

Student wellbeing remains a key priority at The Academy. Early in Term 2, we will introduce My Mind Check, a voluntary and evidence-based digital wellbeing tool designed to support schools in understanding and responding to student needs.

This platform provides students with the opportunity to reflect on areas such as emotional wellbeing, peer relationships and overall school experience. It is non-diagnostic and designed to support early identification and proactive wellbeing support.

Further information will be shared with families as implementation approaches, ensuring parents and carers are well informed.

ANZAC Day Reflection

Our school community will also come together to acknowledge ANZAC Day, reflecting on the values of service, courage and sacrifice. This provides an important opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of history and recognise the contributions of those who have served.

Moments such as these reinforce the importance of respect, reflection and connection within our community.

Looking Ahead

As we begin Term 2, it has been pleasing to see students return with a positive mindset and a readiness to engage in their learning. The term ahead will provide a wide range of opportunities across academic, creative and community experiences, and we look forward to seeing students continue to grow and develop.

Thank you for the ongoing support you provide your children and our school. The partnership between families and staff remains central to ensuring our students are supported in all aspects of their development.
