DA VINCI DECATHLON 2023 NSW RESULTS

The da Vinci Decathlon is a national academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: Engineering, Mathematics, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Cartography and Legacy.

“The atmosphere in the room was intense. Every single task was a challenge in its own way and while we were intimidated in the beginning, we pushed through our fears and excelled as a team.”
The Academy’s Captain of Academics Noah Randell describing the experience.

Since 2013, there have only been six high school teams west of the Blue Mountains to make the top 10 at the state level of da Vinci Decathlon. Five of those have been from the Academy, Year 7 2019, 8th in the state, Year 9 2021 2nd in the state and Year 8 2021 finished 10th in the state and in 2023, Year 11 finished 4th.

“This team has trained together for 6 years. They have worked hard and pushed themselves to be their best. You don’t get the win without the work and determination and grit is at the core of not only these students but our school.” Ms Mandi Randell, Principal of the Academy.

ABOUT THE DA VINCI DECATHLON

The da Vinci Decathlon began in 2002 as an exciting offshoot of the very successful da Vinci Program for gifted and talented students at Knox. The Decathlon is designed to celebrate the academic gifts of Australian youth by providing a stimulating and challenging competition run in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon.

What began as a local competition for Australian public and private schools has grown to be a national and global phenomenon, involving thousands of students from Years 5 to 11.

The growth has been enormous, and interest so high, that chapter schools have been formed in Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

These schools now run individual local and state competitions, in order to choose representatives for the National da Vinci Decathlon Final held each year at Knox Grammar School in Sydney over several days of competition and cultural events.
